About us
Turning Hope Into Action
The Shane Osteosarcoma Fonds was founded in honor of Shane, a brave and inspiring young soul who faced osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer. Shane’s courage and unwavering spirit have inspired us to take action, to bring hope to other children and families walking a similar path.
Osteosarcoma remains underfunded and under-researched despite its devastating impact on young lives. Our mission is to change this by funding life-saving research, providing support to families and raising awareness about this overlooked disease.

Why We Started This Fund
Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer in children and adolescents, primarily affecting those between the ages of ten and twenty. Despite being rare, with approximately 3 to 4 cases per 1 million people worldwide annually, its impact is devastating. In Switzerland alone, dozens of children and teens are diagnosed each year, forever altering the lives of families.
This cancer typically begins in the long bones, like the legs and arms, and has a high tendency to spread to the lungs or other parts of the body if not detected early. Current treatments, including surgery and chemotherapy, are harsh and often have long-term side effects. Sadly, survival rates have remained largely unchanged for the past few decades due to limited funding and research progress.
The Shane Osteosarcoma Fonds was born out of love, resilience and the determination to make a difference. Shane’s journey opened our eyes to the urgent need for progress – not just for better treatments, but for a network of care that uplifts families in their most challenging moments.
By creating this fund, we hope to turn our pain into purpose and ensure that no family faces osteosarcoma alone.
